What brought me to O! Burger the first time was the fact that they were a fast-food burger place nearby that had vegan burgers. Okay, okay, Johnny Rockets has vegan burgers too, but this place makes their own vegan patty (Johnny Rockets’ uses Boca Burger patties) as well as vegan shakes.
The BF and I went to O! Burger again this weekend when we were on our way home and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat without having to spend too much money. I’m not usually a fan of crinkle cut fries, they remind me too much of soggy cafeteria fries, but I have to admit that the crinkle cut fries at O! Burger are pretty damn good. They’re crispy and salty on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside.
I ordered the classic O! burger with cheese, which is a patty of grass-fed beef topped with shredded cabbage, 1000 island sauce, and sweet pickles. I noticed the first time I had their burger that the pickles were sweeter than the usual pickles you’d get on burgers. It was a surprise I’m starting to like. The patty was pretty good, but nothing special; if I hadn’t read that it was grass-fed beef, I wouldn’t have known. What really makes the burger is the quality of the fixings and O! Burger does a good job with that. It’s also a nice touch that they toast the buns.
The BF ordered the classic O! Veggie, which is a burger made with a vegan patty topped with shredded cabbage, sliced cucumbers, and sweet pickles. He got his topped with guacamole, which is also vegan. The patty in the veggie burger is made with corn and spinach and tastes like a vegetable-based patty; don’t expect something meaty and you won’t be disappointed. I took a bite of it and thought it was one of the better vegan patties I’ve had. Another nice thing about O! Bureger is that if you’re vegan, you don’t have to worry about them getting the sauces mixed up because all the burger sauces at O! burger are vegan.
The first time we were there, we split a vegan banana and date shake. It was too watery and icy and sweet for me. Nothing like the creamy and thick shake I was expecting. It might have been the dates that made the shake too sweet, so next time I’m hankering for a shake, I’ll remember to order it without the dates.
For what it is, a fast-food-type burger joint with organic ingredients, O! Burger is good. Street parking is a pain to find because the restaurant is in the middle of West Hollywood, but there’s free validated parking if you follow the signs. The staff has been nice and knowledgeable about their ingredients, which definitely beats the staff at fast food places like Burger King or McDonald’s. The prices are higher than those fast-food chains (our two burgers & one order of fries came out to be about $20) but the food is organic if you care about that and I do think the burgers taste better.
