Brunch: Fail Omelette

Brunch: Omelette

I tried to make an omelette in a wok today for brunch, but it was a fail omelette. The filling came out really well: sauteed peppers, onions, baked/spiced tofu, and some tomatoes thrown in at the end. The egg part came out not so well. It looked good in the pan, but broke apart while I was trying to slide it out. Next time, i think I’ll try making two smaller omelettes instead of the massive 5-egg omelette.

Dinner: Garlic Soup and Tomato Salad

Dinner: Farmer's Market FindsI woke up early this morning to go to the Santa Monica Famer’s Market. I’d been meaning to go to the Wednesday ones, but since it’s only from 8:30am to 1:30pm and I usually work on Wednesday, it means I have to wake up extra early to go. It was actually pretty nice to get up early and go to the farmer’s market — the weather was great and it was by the beach, so the air wasn’t too bad either.
Dinner: Farmer's Market Finds
I mainly wanted to get tomatoes for dinner. I guess it’s a late tomato season this year because while the tomatoes were okay, only the red ones were really good and ripe. Either way, the fresh burrata from Gioia (some cheese place in El Monte) was fantastic on the salad.

I also made French Roasted Garlic Soup with the four heads of garlic. The soup was rich and delicious, but definitely not for people who are wishy-washy about garlic. I found that adding a splash of rice vinegar to the soup at the end, even though it’s not in the recipe, brightens up the soup and cuts down on the overpowering richness of the garlic.

Dinner: Natto & Rice

Dinner: rice, natto, fish, and watermelon

I was craving natto for some reason these past couple of days, so I decided to make a simple dish of natto on piping hot rice. It ended up not being so simple because I wanted to dress it up a little with grated radish and chopped kimchi. Then, since I also had a craving for poke, I topped it off with some store bought poke and shrimp.

I’ve never had natto mixed with chopped kimchi before, but it’s a fantastic combination. It’s even more delicious wrapped in some nori.

My mom also made some sauteed watermelon skin (the white fleshy parts) for me to take home so I had that with the rice as well. It’s refreshing and appetizing straight out of the fridge.
